Last week our Principal Designer, Michael Kelly presented an industry-ready Skillshare to a group of keen third and fourth years at the college of creative arts. This informative skillshare provided participants with an introduction to what skills are needed for designers when working in Open Lab.
Those that joined in had the opportunity to see 11 years of Michael’s physical work, hear about what we do and practice in Open Lab and have a one on one chat about those insecurities and possibilities that industry has to offer.
The skillshare acted as an introduction to what we are going to focus on in our upcoming industry-ready Bootcamps. These will be held every Thursday consisting of a 1x hour group workshop and focusing on the following topics:
– Document setup
– Mastering text threads
– Tables are your BFF
– Colour bridge
– Open Lab checklist
– Project flow
– Talking to your portfolio
These workshops will encourage relaxed discussions around industry and what Michael has learnt over the past 11 years while working in Wellington. Yesterday we held our first ever boot camp which highlighted the importance of Document setup when working in industry.
It was a great turnout and we are already looking forward to our second Bootcamp that will be held this coming Thursday. So, if you are keen to ease the unknown of industry or are just intrigued about what else you can learn about InDesign sign up and come along!
To ensure a spot email us at firstname.lastname@example.org as we only have enough room for 14 students.
